March 19, 2025: Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing, SMU successfully hosted a Workshop at Level 6 Auditorium, on 19th March, 2025 on "Cultural Humility”, marking a significant step in advancing inclusive and empathetic healthcare practices.

The master of ceremony, Ms. Anila Jorden Bhutia, Tutor, Dept. of OBG Nursing, SMCON, warmly welcomed the dignitaries and participants, emphasizing the relevance of cultural humility in today's diverse healthcare landscape. The workshop commenced with an invocation and the traditional Lighting of the Lamp, symbolizing wisdom and enlightenment.

Prof. Binita Khati, Organizing Chairperson and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing, SMCON, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the day's discussions. Prof. Champa Sharma, Principal, SMCON, provided an inspiring address that encouraged participants to embrace cultural humility as a professional and personal responsibility.

The highlight of the event was the plenary session led by the distinguished resource person, Prof. Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, an esteemed academician and healthcare innovator who is currently serving as a Director, MAHE FAIMER International Institute for Leadership in Interprofessional Education (M-FIILIPE), MAHE, Coordinator of CEIAWC, Professor & QMR at MCON, and Deputy Director at CCEID, MAHE, Manipal. Dr. Elsa shared her invaluable insights on incorporating cultural humility in healthcare education and practice. She also captivated the audience with practical approaches to foster empathy and inclusiveness in clinical settings.

Prof. Reshma Tamang, Organizing Secretary and Head of the Department, Child Health Nursing, SMCON delivered the closing remarks and conducted the valedictory session.

The workshop concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Samikcha Giri, Tutor, SMCON. There were around 100 participants who attended the workshop and they expressed their gratitude for the enriching and inspiring session, which equipped them with practical tools to integrate cultural humility in their practice.
