Program: Mass Health Awareness on Typhoid and COVID-19

The final-year B.Sc. Nursing students of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON) organised a mass health awareness program on “Typhoid and COVID-19”. The event took place at the Primary Health Centre, Rangpo, and was attended by approximately 40 participants, including MOIC, MO, Health Educator, Sister in charge and local residents of Rangpo.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address and offering of khadas to the dignitaries. This was followed by an engaging and informative health education delivered by the SMCON students, focusing on Typhoid and COVID-19. During the session, the students shared insightful information on the types, causes, signs and symptoms of Typhoid as well as of COVID-19 respectively. They also elaborated on prevention and precautionary management of COVID-19.
In addition, they even demonstrated handwashing techniques along with the correct way of wearing masks to promote active learning. Furthermore, to involve the audience, a quiz was conducted with small tokens of appreciation awarded to the winners.
The program concluded with an insightful awareness speech given by the health educator Mr. Dinesh Shankar on the topic of heat waves. The MOI, Health Educators, ANM, and patients expressed their appreciation for the students’ initiative and praised their efforts to raise awareness on Typhoid and COVID-19. They also emphasized the need for more such community-focused awareness programs in the future.
