On 1st August 2025, the Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy (SMCPT) organized its annual induction program “Deeksharambh” to formally welcome the new students of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) and Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) programs for the academic session 2025–26.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. G. K. Prabhu, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, Dr. Prabhu emphasized the evolving role of physiotherapy in modern healthcare and encouraged students to pursue their academic and clinical training with dedication, empathy, and innovation.
The program commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the beginning of a new academic journey.
The Principal of SMCPT, Prof. Nikita Joshi Sonowal, delivered the welcome address, introducing the vision and mission of the college and highlighting its achievements in academics, research, and community service.

The event provided a platform for students to familiarize themselves with the academic environment, interact with faculty and peers, and understand the expectations and opportunities that lie ahead.
“Deeksharambh 2025” laid a strong foundation for students’ academic and professional journey at SMCPT, fostering belonging, motivation, and readiness to become skilled and compassionate physiotherapy professionals.
Program Schedule
- Day 2 (2nd August): Formal introduction of students to all Department and Non-Department units.
- Day 3 (5th August): Session on Time Management by Dr. Rinchen Gensapa; admission formalities and medical check-up.
- Day 4 & 5: Formal classes resumed with medical check and admission formalities for the rest of the batch.
- Day 6 (8th August): Dr. Ashila Bhutia (NHS) guided students through the foundation days of 1st year, reflecting on the transformative role of physiotherapy.
- Day 7 (11th August): Hon’ble VC Dr. G. K. Prabhu introduced the Founder and shared a life lesson on leading with intention and compassion.
- Day 8 (12th August): Dr. Anmol Chettri (Psychiatry Dept.) discussed the importance of mental well-being and student support programs.
- Day 9 (14th August): Principal Prof. Nikita Joshi Sonowal and Dr. Bishal Bista highlighted Anti-Ragging and POSH policies, ensuring safety and rights for students.
- Day 10 (16th August): Gender Sensitization session by Dr. Ajoy Daniel Rai; introduction to Fit India & NSS groups by Dr. Prabin Pradhan and Dr. Rahul Thakur; concluded with the 1st Teacher-Guardian Meeting.
