Event Report: Alumni Talk – “Engineering Careers in the Era of Industry 4.0: Skills, Challenges, and Opportunities”

As part of the 90th birthday celebrations of our beloved Founding Pro Chancellor of SMU, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai (Padma Bhushan Awardee), the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, SMIT, in collaboration with the Alumni Engagement Cell, SMIT, hosted an insightful session on “Engineering Careers in the Era of Industry 4.0”.

Generations of students and teachers have been inspired by Dr. Pai's vision and leadership, which established the groundwork for academic success and innovation at SMIT. The department takes great pride in paying tribute to him by holding activities that reflect his ideals, particularly those that foster leadership, education, and strong relationships with former students.

The guest speaker, Mr. Anand Kr Tripathi, an alumnus from the 2011 batch and currently a Manager at Samwha India Energy Savings Pvt. Ltd., shared insights from his 14+ years of experience across various industries and countries. Mr. Tripathi's address was both inspirational and educational, providing valuable perspectives on how engineering fields are evolving in today's rapidly advancing industrial landscape.

He discussed the potential opportunities and challenges that aspiring engineers may face in the future, emphasizing the value of industry-relevant skills and the importance of adapting to emerging technologies.

Throughout the session, Mr. Tripathi also shared valuable insights on various topics within the Electrical and Electronics Engineering domain, offering students practical knowledge and real-world applications. His talk helped bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.

The students found the session extremely informative and engaging. During the interactive Q&A segment, they expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude, and Mr. Tripathi patiently addressed several queries, offering thoughtful guidance and career advice.

The event concluded on a positive note with a vote of thanks extended to Mr. Anand Kr. Tripathi for taking time out of his busy schedule to connect with the students and share his experience and knowledge. His contribution made the session a resounding success and left a lasting impact on the attendees.

This event beautifully blended learning, mentorship, and celebration — serving as a tribute to our beloved Founding Pro Chancellor of SMU, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai’s lifelong commitment to education and excellence.
