1 | Dr. Rajeev Singh | Asst. Professor, Physics Department, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University |
Quantum Computing and Quantum machine learning masterclass was a masterclass open for all departments of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology aff’d Sikkim Manipal University by Special Interest and Industry Liaison Group. The guest lecturer of honour Dr. Rajeev Singh who is an assistant professor in the physics department of Indian Institute of Technology( Banaras Hindu University) has been conducting such lectures throughout universities all over India
Day 1 of the masterclass started with Prof. Udit Kr. Chakraborty, HoD CSE and President ACCESS felicitating Dr. Rajeev Singh with the traditional Sikkimese ‘Khada’. Further on in the lecture the basic history and a timeline as to how quantum computers came into existence was covered along with some notable mentions of resources such as the book ‘Dancing with qubits by S. Sutor’. A questionnaire round was also entertained by Dr. Rajeev Singh.
Day 2 of the event commenced in the seminar hall and covered important basics such as what are NISQ algorithms and what companies have invested in developing this technology not only in India but around the world. Some basics of discrete mathematics were covered in coherence to their importance with various quantum gates. Important topics like tensor products were also covered in this session.
Day 3 the final day covered further real world important implications of quantum computing where in IBM’s simulators and amazon’s simulator machines were shown and how one can access them, the three day course ended with Dr. Rajeev meeting with the SIGIL team. The course provided the insights required for students to participate in IBM quantum computing school, which is a competition that tackles challenges in quantum computing and quantum machine learning likewise.
