On the auspicious evening of March 13th, 2025, the Student Council of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) organized the Holika Dahan celebration, bringing students together to honor tradition, unity, and cultural heritage. The event commenced at 6:30 PM at C-Block, where students gathered in anticipation of the ritual.
To set the tone, a speaker began with an engaging talk on the significance of Holika Dahan, narrating the legend of Prahlad and Holika and emphasizing the festival’s message—the victory of good over evil and the power of faith. This insightful introduction helped attendees connect with the festival beyond the ritual itself. Following this, the Director of SMIT addressed the gathering, sharing a few words on the importance of cultural celebrations in strengthening community bonds and preserving traditions.
The evening continued with cultural performances, featuring energetic dance acts and soulful musical renditions, keeping the festive spirit alive. These performances highlighted the diverse talents of the SMIT community, fostering a sense of joy and togetherness.
As night fell, the much-awaited Holika Dahan ritual took place. Students gathered around the sacred fire, witnessing the symbolic burning of Holika, marking the triumph of positivity over negativity. The flickering flames reflected a sense of unity as attendees offered prayers for prosperity and new beginnings.
The Holika Dahan celebration was more than just a tradition—it was a moment of reflection, unity, and cultural pride, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
