As part of the week-long
celebration of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the NEP Saarthis at Sikkim
Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), with the invaluable support of the NSS
volunteers, successfully organized an Essay Competition. This event
aimed to encourage students to engage with themes surrounding education,
national identity, and the vision for a progressive India, aligning with both
the legacy of our freedom fighters and the National Education Policy (NEP)
2020.
The theme for the
competition, “Redefining Patriotism Through Education” was carefully
chosen to link the historical significance of India’s freedom fighters with the
ongoing education reforms. Participants were invited to reflect on how the
values and contributions of past leaders continue to influence India’s
educational policies and, by extension, the future of the nation.
The event saw
enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. In
addition, many members of the NSS, after completing their own essay
competition, actively joined ours and contributed insightful perspectives. The
essays submitted displayed a diverse range of ideas, with students showcasing
not only their writing skills but also their deep understanding of the
intersection of education, history, and nation-building.
