Event Summary:

On the 13th of June 2025, Shri Arnab Ganguly, a Drug Enforcement Officer from the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Lucknow, was invited by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology to raise awareness on drug abuse, mental and social health, legal implications, and values of relationships.

With nearly 25 years of experience in law enforcement and expertise in the NDPS Act 1985, Shri Ganguly delivered a two-hour session covering substance abuse, methods to detect and prevent trafficking, and institutional responsibilities in early intervention.

Special attention was given to hostel wardens and security staff to recognize and report suspicious behavior. The session concluded with real-life case studies and discussions on youth dilemmas involving mental and social challenges.

All attendees pledged to report early signs of distress to the concerned authorities. Shri Ganguly offered 24x7 support and consultation on legal matters. The Director, Admin Head, Associate Director (Student Affairs), faculty, and staff affirmed their commitment to support students facing emotional or social difficulties.

The program was attended by Prof. (Dr.) G. L. Sharma – Director, SMIT; Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Chettri – Associate Director (Student Affairs); Retd. Col. D. B. Chettri – Head Admin; along with department heads, faculty, and non-teaching staff.
